Random thoughts as reality bites

As Erwin Schrödinger, 1933 Nobel Laureate in Physics once said “If you cannot – in the long run – tell everyone what you have been doing, your doing has been worthless”.

As an extension to this statement, I immediately thought that you can at least formulate a plan and let the world know what you think or wish to do – you know what I mean; your circle – your world! That is what matters. According to Pasteur, “Chance favors the prepared mind”, a quote that was on my desk during my formative years.

I wish to digress at this point by a thought that came, in the recent wake of a torrent of Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire (SM). Our species, as my grandfather once remarked, is famous for calling names of animals to stereotype all actions of humans or liken them to humans. Not a nice thing to do this as it brands you once and for all. A dog’s life- an oft-quoted statement/slang, what does that imply? It is the human species that exploits the underdog and gives it the name.

SM sparked off so much controversy. How hard is it to understand human creativity or psychology for that matter? Honestly I had not read much of the movie review before we saw it on Day 2 of its release at Prasad’s Multiplex. Therefore what I say is without bias except for the well known fact that Dharavi is an organized, panoramic – if your permit me to use that word, human settlement and chose not to use the word slum as that in itself would limit the scope for a change which we seek always and what better way to do that than to show it in a creative and powerful way! It has made its impact and made the world turnaround!

I came out of Prasad’s Multiplex with a totally positive emotion and was enthralled at what Indo-UK collaborations could eventually result in churning so many minds; evolving so much debate. Undoubtedly it has been shot with a lot of feeling, it has been brilliantly directed and one is left with a positive feeling of something that the human spirit always yearns for. SM has a double connotation! SM at heart- let it be this way; the other is your guess.

This visual venture has once again united people of diverse origins and one can only get the feeling of solidarity – can you feel Danny Boyle (DB) reaching out to India? The repercussions that follow is simply because that is what DB and his team probably achieved. It speaks for its success! A wholehearted involvement such as in a symphony is what is needed for success! The theatre is our COSMOS! Remember that one cannot achieve this if it is not felt from within. Obviously it rained in millions from millions of hearts to make a landmark in the history of films! Crossed all barriers/boundaries. Why do we rant as to why it takes a British to direct the film and get the Oscar?! Remember that it takes two hands to clap. But for the music, where would SM go? I will leave you with a closing statement-

“Every DOG has its DAY!” JAI HO
