Fire (again)

I woke up this morning to a hazy sky; the orange-gray clouds obscuring the sun though it had risen well before me. I opened the screen door leading to the patio and was greeted by the smoky smell of a distant fire. Far away mountains were shrouded in the thick haze that covered the sky line in every direction. It is also a very hot day, with the highs in the triple digits. Excuse the cheesy analogy, but this sounds like hell on Earth. Or perhaps nature warning us that we are on borrowed time, that civilization planted in this semi-arid, mountainous terrain shall be shortly reclaimed by fire, flood and earthquake.
